Prizes of $0 to $599
- No taxes are withheld.
- No W-2G tax form is issued.
Prizes of $600 to $4,999
- Tax reporting requirements may apply depending on federal and state regulations.
- A W-2G tax form is generally issued unless applicable reporting thresholds are not met.
Prizes of $5,000 or More
- Federal and state taxes are withheld during prize claim processing.
- You will receive your winnings after applicable tax withholdings have been deducted.
- A W-2G tax form will be issued for tax reporting purposes.
- If applicable, you may also receive a debt offset notification letter.
Current withholding rates for qualifying prizes are:
- 24% Federal tax
- 5% Kansas State tax
When will I receive my W-2G?
If taxes are withheld from your prize, the Kansas Lottery will mail you a W-2G tax form in January following the year in which the prize was claimed. You should retain this form for your tax records and filing purposes.
